APES CareBase was formerly known as APES NED (National Exotics Database).
The name has been updated to reflect the expanded scope of the platform, which now holds and manages information beyond exotic animalsspecies nationwide.alone, encompassing a wider range of animals, care settings, and professional use cases.

APES CareBase is a not-for-profit initiative.
The platform is developed and maintained to support animal welfare, transparency, and informed decision-making across the UK.
