Brachypelma Species Care Sheet

Brachypelma is a Genus of tarantula found exclusively in Mexico. The Genus contains 8 Species that are all found in the hobby.

• Brachypelma Emilia

• Brachypelma Klassi

These species are among the most well-known in the hobby and are considered to be the best Tarantula species for beginners due to their good size, attractive colours, and docile personality. In the hobby today, it is quite likely to find Sp. Hamorii is a hybrid between them and Sp. Smithi, as they are incredibly similar in appearance, and not many people can properly differentiate between the two. 

Brachypelma are long-lived Genus living up to and in excess of 20 years if female, Males likely living up to 10 years. They are a terrestrial species, so a deep enclosure is required, giving them ample burrowing space.  These tarantulas seem to enjoy climbing (although they aren't very good at it), so we recommend that these Species do not live in an enclosure that gives them much room to climb.
